Helpful Ductless Heating Maintenance Tips

Even though your heating system does not require the use of ductwork throughout the house, there are still going to be some maintenance needs that you will need to keep up with. If you are not able to maintain your ductless heating system on your own, you could always hire an HVAC company to assist you with the work. However, if you would like to give it a try on your own, these are some of the maintenance tips that you are going to want to keep in mind:

Clean Dust Off Of The Outside Of The Units

While you do not want to start unscrewing anything and sticking your hands in around any fans, you will want to make sure that you are keeping the outside of the units free of dust and any other debris. This can be done by taking a slightly damp cloth and gently wiping the outside of the ductless heater wall unit, while it is turned off. Depending on how dusty your home gets, you might want to do this every couple of weeks or so.

Spray Off The Condenser And Coils

The condenser and coils are found on the outside of the ductless heating unit. Before doing anything, you will want to first make sure that the unit is completely off. Then, simply take your garden hose and spray off the unit. You do not have to worry about drying it off, as it will not take too much time to dry in the sun.

Check The Condition Of The Pipes

There are going to be pipes, usually made of clear plastic, that run from the outside unit into your home. It is important that these pipes are kept clean and there are not any holes in them. It would be a good idea to occasionally look over all of the pipes that you can see. If there is debris in them or the clear plastic is starting to look dark from a buildup of something, you will want to call to have them cleaned out.

As you can see, there are a few maintenance tasks that you will want to make sure that you are staying on top of in order to keep your ductless heating system in good working order. If you discover that you are not able to complete the maintenance work on your own, call an HVAC company to help. If your system is newly installed, you might want to reach out to the HVAC company that did the installation work.
